Reputable US academy in West Point modernizes its entire library holdings

“We are very proud that the renowned US military academy in West Point/New York will be equipping its new library with the BiblioChip system,” confirms Lamar Jackson, President and CEO of Bibliotheca USA. In the USA, more than 30 libraries are already using the BiblioChip system.

The new Jefferson Hall Library, due to be completed in 2009, will be a striking, modern education center situated opposite the current library building. The library and two elite teaching centers will be housed over a surface area of 14,000 m2 and spread over six floors.

“The planning of Jefferson Hall has been adapted specifically to the needs of US cadets. The library will be a centre for active and progressive learning,” says Joseph Barth, librarian of the USMA. “In this context, the BiblioChip system offers numerous functions that are in keeping with the academy’s mission: excellent software and perfect encoding of data. Staff have already been able to complete the conversion of all library holdings quickly and simply. Bibliotheca’s attractive automatic check-out terminals operate directly via interfaces developed in collaboration with Innovative Interfaces. The Millennium Circulation Client is completely integrated in the BiblioChip RFID system and enables fast and efficient media management.”
Special RFID labels for AV media performing self-service and security functions are among the other benefits USMA appreciates. Consequently, additional lockable plastic boxes are no longer required. The software registers the entire content of the media packages without these having to be opened and processed individually. The portable, wireless BiblioWand operates in real-time mode and enables efficient and precise inventory control, as well as selective search for misplaced media directly at the shelf. And last but not least: Bibliotheca’s training program for library staff is interesting and straightforward.

USMA, located about 90 km north of New York City on the Hudson River, ranks as the oldest and most traditional military base in the United States. The library is the oldest in the state of New York.
