The West Tokyo Public Library opted to implement the BiblioChip system by Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems in April 2008 as one of the first libraries in Japan to do so. The RFID system went live a mere six weeks later.

15 BiblioSelfCheck Neptune stations, one double gate, seven single gates and 35 Biblio StaffStations were installed in very short order. A total of 735,000 media were equipped with RFID labels; 15,000 of them are CDs/DVDs, to which the team affixed RingLabels. Moreover, the fact that a country-specific system modification was developed to make our Danish data model compatible with the Japanese standard gives the project prominence. Takachiho Koheki, Bibliotheca's partner in Japan, developed specific SIP2 conversion software to enable the Japanese CILIS library system by IBM to communicate fluently with our SelfCheck software. The very fact that the BiblioChip system is based on open, non-proprietary formats is what makes fundamental customer specifications possible.

Bibliotheca's close cooperation with a well known local high-tech company like Takachiho Koheki on implementing Western technologies in the particular Japanese market was undoubtedly elementary. Both companies bundle their specific know-how, thus providing a high level of professionalism from which their customers profit directly.
