The Bavarian State Library in Munich

Smooth conversion of OCR codes to RFID labels

Munich's most important collection of reference material and scientific works: The Bavarian State Library is affixing RFID labels to all the media in its general reading room. The new technology is primarily intended to keep the collection safe. "Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems and OCLC have fully integrated the RFID interface through the SLNP protocol into the lending client and the multi-function client for acquisitions and cataloging," explains Dr. Wilhelm Hilpert, project manager and head of reader services. "This expansion of our library management system means that incorporating new items and circulating media can be done directly, through a single interface at the staff RFID workstations. Now, we won't have to worry about interfaces and adjustments, even if we change to a new system version."

With nine million titles, the Bavarian State Library is the second-biggest general library in the German-speaking world and represents one of the most important collections of reference material in the world.
